Brand New Year 2008

Dear readers at Roseskitchenette,

I made some updates to the site today, including “top commentators”, and an opportunity to subscribe to the RSS Feed at the end of a recipe page.

My mum has not added many new recipes lately because her knees have been giving her trouble and it has become difficult to walk and get around.

Anyway, we’ve been getting about 130 visits to the site everyday, which is encouraging. Most of the visits come from the United States, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and the UK. 22% are returning visitors.

My mum will be trying to get more recipes up soon once she gets better, thank you for your patience!

Google Ads

I have never really liked websites with advertisements, but I have decided to experiment with some Google ads for 3 reasons:

1. They seem to actually provide some useful and related links, which may lead to interesting recipes.
2. They can be configured to fit into the template of the website, so they don’t look ugly.
3. They can provide some extra income to defray the costs of running the website. Ideally, the website would run itself.

I think I will extend them for another week and see how it goes. I would appreciate any feedback - if many people absolutely hate them and find them useless, I will remove them. This is a not-for-profit site.

Thanks!

Launch of New Site

I remember when my mum wrote her first entry on Rose’s Kitchen, a blog on Wordpress.com. It has been a phenomenal 14 months since then. There are now more than 200 recipes, many of them proprietary. The site gets more than 200 daily hits. There have been a total of 45870 views - we are very glad that many people have enjoyed these recipes. We hope to share more with you.

We launched the new site, www.roseskitchenette.com, because we wanted to make more functions available to you. Functions such as printing, emailing, rating, etc. We wanted to make the site as user-friendly as possible, while still easy for us to maintain.

This project has brought a lot of joy to my mum, and she loves to hear from people who have tried and enjoyed her recipes. She also loves to hear suggestions on variations and improvements to the recipes.
